Our January cover and almost every cover since the inception of the magazine, was photographed by professional photographer turned real estate agent, Michael Bell. Mike operated a professional photography studio in Cross Lanes, from 1985 to 2012, when he closed it and moved into another stage in his work career. But he didn’t hang up his cameras, as our covers show. This photograph, featuring a professional model… ok.. so it wasn’t a professional model. But it is a model none the less, was created on a very cold, early morning after a fresh snow fall. Making a quick trip through several areas in Charleston, we happened on this scene, snow on tall and majestic pines, bowing their limbs under the weight and soft light creating an image we decided would be a perfect cover photo. Unexpectedly, Mike sent editor Dan Lanham, into the snow to walk through the frame, making an iconic image that just shouts winter wonder land and became a perfect cover image.
